This thing is driving my nuts...I drove it fine in another truck, now that i have it in a 69 K/30 Dually 4x4..it clunks when you go forward...up the road...when you let off gas...it clunks again. then it grinds like it has a bad bearing in it...if you lightly step off the gas..it goes away..I just pulled down the beast...you know how much fun that is by yourself.:doah:.and tore it down...It looks new inside...all bearings and gears are fine...Now could this be because the case shifter is not all the way in????Or halfway in??? I really need another option...of what it may be..I am stumped here...

Its a 80 TH400/205 setup...no bearing in the adapter..i checked that.

Yeah, loose pinion nut ,might have chowed the pinion bearings..also check the driveshaft splines, they can cause some weird vibes and noises too..and the u-joints..there could be too much end play or backlash in one of the T-case gearsets also..

Worn drive shaft splines? Maybe is just coincidence that it's happening after you put in the t-case?

New rear drive shaft, rear end pinion is ok...case looked new inside..no wore bearings. I am thinking it was not all the way in 2wd...(shifter is hitting floor pan) I am cutting a bigger hole for it now. and as soon as i get a helper,i will put it back in. and try it..

The rear end is a 14 bolt out of a 2005 chevy van that burnt to the ground..has less than 1,000 miles on it when i got it in 2004

How are you doing up there in ohio? Its been hot and dry here.

Doing pretty good up here, the heat hasn't been too bad at all. Still wish I lived down there, lol.

Oh, my truck ended up having a seized front pinion bearing and no lube up there, if you were curious.

This is a pretty common problem with 205's, it's due to driveline vibrations whether you can feel them or not.

it is puzzling because in the other truck it made no noise..I put it back in and put lucas oil stabilzer and 85w140 gear oil and it quieted down alot but it is still there...I am going to run it..and i need to haul gravel and its a 8 mile round trip..so I will see what happens.

Check your driveline angle.I just went around on that one with my truck.Lowered the crossmember about an inch and its like a differant truck now.
