I'm having proublems with my NP205. It makes a loud grinding rattle sound when driving 40mph and faster. It is connected to a 700r4 trany. How can I test the trensfer case bearings to see if they are good.

Drive shaft is new. I will check the u-joints..... Cause maybe drive shaft angle?

Thanks for the help.

My 205 made rattiling noise stock, and makes the same noise now that it is lifted. I even have a brand new rear driveshaft and good angles. I attribute more of the noise to the coupler on the 465/205 setup. That 6 inch lift on your blazer is probably messing with you angles big time, sounds like its new driveshaft time for you.

Well, I guess I should elaborate with my own experience.

When I lifted my truck way back when, the 205 started making noise only while under no or very light throttle (realize that my truck is a 4 speed). I did eventually have to replace the 10 spline coupler because it had worn enough that it wouldn't keep the seal in the adapter, this had no impact on the noise.

If I ran in 2WD the t-case made a racket, if I pulled the rear shaft and ran it in FWD only (the front was a CV shaft) the t-case was silent, even up to 70 mph.

No question that the noise was caused by vibrations in the rear shaft even if I couldn't really feel them.
