NP205 help

I think the CV is binding at full droop, but it's only 2 caps that were bad. They had no needle bearings left and there were flat spots on the trunnion. The other joint in the CV is fine. And the other pair of caps in the bad joint seemed fine.

I can see that being maxed out with a nice set of springs even with a long driveshaft. I broke the cv centering ball twice on 1350 superduty cv heads and have switched to a 1410 at the tcase. The cv head i used does not offer alot of angle relative to the 1410 single joint.

The more I think about this, I'm wondering if there was something faulty about the ujoint that didn't allow those 2 caps to get grease. Nothing else shows signs of binding and I would think binding would have caused damage to more than just caps. Especially with the flat spots on the trunion, that's like what happens when the needles aren't getting rotated.

I tried to find the old joint in the dumpster, but I didn't have any luck. I was thinking I could put grease in it and see if it comes out all 4 ends.

It is possible to not grease all of the caps properly if the grease gets too firm in the cross. Then, if you don't see if come out of all 4 seals, it continues to be starved of lube. You can sometimes push on the shaft to apply pressure and close off the easier path and then push grease out of the others. But sometimes just adding more grease will make it purge evenly.
I try to wipe up the excess to help reduce the slinging of grease.

Just a slight problem. Ujoint is dry. shouldn’t move like that. I’ve had the grease get dry and not allow new to pass by it. Looks like you’re missing a few needle bearings. I just replaced my combo joint In the rear for the same problem.

Actually all of the needle bearings were gone in both caps. Didn't have any noise on the last trip, so that was the source.
