hello,

is there any difference strength-wise between these two styles ?
I have the first one on my rig right now (465/np205)
and I have a spare np205 with the second one

also does each one require a different cross-member?

thanks,

Those two mounts do take different cross-members, and transfer case adapters. The first style is differently bomb proof and used on the tall style adapter. However, since these mounts are stiffer the tall style has the leverage, the adapter has the tendency to break.
GM then went to the shorter adapter with the single mount. I don't think you can switch mounts, adapters, and cross-members. The bolt spacing in the adapters are different, you have to slot the holes to get any thing to fit.

I only have experience with the early mounts and tall adapters.

and when 205 went to short mount with round 6 pattern it also got the 32 pline input gear.

your 465/205 with tall mount now has 10 spline input gear.

and dont forget if any mount is changed from rubber to other like polly then all must be changed on motor and tcase to match.

I had the top style on my 205 and the bottom on my 208...both behind a 465. If im remembering correctly..

the second design has a stronger input adapter (32 spline) but i like the first style mount where it is also attached to the side of the frame for lateral support of the drivetrain.i have replaced the 10 spine first design coupler already but it was 30 years old so i figured it lasted long enough to say there is not really a strength facor to keeping it and reusing it and not changing to the 2nd design 205.i really wasnt easy on it either.also as said if you change from rubber to poly on the 205 it will put added stress to the rubber ones on the trans and engine mount if you dont also change those out too.

both np205 I have are 10-spline figure-8 style !
I need to take a pic on the one with the single mount

interesting.... what year did GM go to the single mount style for the np 205? I never knew about the single mount, just the two smaller mounts. I've seen this on 72's and 78's

I can't remember, I think it was around 82 or 84.
