Hellow all.. Heres another noob question..

How sensative is the selector lever? I cannot seem to disengage 4wd..

With truck off.. "clicks" through all detents, but I get nothing interms of movement from stick when truck is running. "4wd indicator" is inop (sender is snapped off) I believe from searching, that is an obsolete part?

The only way I can seem to disengae 4wd is to unlock hubs. Any sugestions?

The lever itself isn't very sensitive but the 205 can be. The 205 can become difficult to shift if the truck is in a bind or driven on hard surfaces. For me, the easiest way to shift out of 4wd is a short roll in the opposite direction (sometimes bumping the trans into neutral while doing this helps too), this will usually help relieve some of the stress and allow you to shift.

ok... well i will try that. I havent found 4lo yet either. Most likely "operator error".. Im supposed to be 10% smarter than the equipment I operate.. That number seems high to me

Well thank you for the information.. I really enjoyed the write up. That was way over my head as far as skill. haha.

Hard to tell but it seems to have disengaged.. I am limited to my drive way, but the 4wd "bind" seems to have gone. Truck will be registered later this week.

Thanks again

fyi that was my first time ever remaning a 203 range box or 205 tcase. :thumb:

anyone should be able to do it with the link i posted in there. let alone all the pictures i posted. :eek1::pimp:

hahahaha.. I'm proud i rebuilt my guages!! worked on Black Hawks for 10 years but overwhelmed with a GMC..

Yes, in truck.. Never heard of chrome paint mods...

update: I'm STILL an idiot. 2HI doesnt exist. but 4Lo does! I got frustrated. Unlocked hubs and kept driving. GREAT gas milage now! hahaha :zombie4:

Well thank you for your patientence. I will try your tips in the new coming snow.

Nice mod. Does it work?

had the same problem with my 1980 k10 205, everything was so dam rusted from being a snowplow truck that i twin sticked it and after that the t-case worked fine, as a side affect i found 2lo with my twin stick was a great help when backing a 40ft gooseneck up the access ran at work. was puch easer on the trans and had greater control too. look in to it ull be thankful.

ok, screwing around in drive way: seems like it was in 2Hi. I couldnt back up my drive way (hard pack snow). But tight turns, still has that bind that makes it seem its in 4wd. Does it usuallly bind with hubs locked on hard ball?

have u ckecked to see if the last owner welded the front careers spider gears to gether? that can make it seen like ur in 4 hi when ur not, buddies got a blazer he bought second hand that was like that, u never know what the past owners have done to the truck untill u take all the covers off and look really, really closely at ur truck.

no i haven not. But I still have no 4lo. made plowing very difficult in 28 inches. i can "feel" selector click thru all posistions, but nothing happens... every is lubed and greased.. Internal? can a 205 be "set" to 4hi only? Grrr.. Anyone know a good shop in CT? this is above my level if I start cracking cases. It terrifies me. Blackhawks or VWs, Fine. Big chevy? not so much

is the shift lever hitting the floorboard or the boot? take that boot off and see if your front shaft is spinning or not. also see if your lever needs more movement because there are some worn out/loose linkage parts.

boot was off. hit "internal" stops. no contact.

never checked spinning shaft bc i cant get it out of 4wd.

sounds like that case needs to be droped out disassimabled cleaned and posible replace a part or two.

can u messure the lenght of the shaftswhen they r in what should be 4lo.

i have a spare 205 case with stock rails sitting at a buddies house i can compare lenghts to his rails ur 205 may not be letting ur rails slide all the way in so u can select 4 lo.
