I took apart my spare 205 yesterday, and there was no spacer between the 2 rows of roller bearings that go in the front output shaft. Could it be someone left them out, or they didn't get used a particular year?
This is a 1980 model 205.

let me check my pics ......

i might have a spare as i keeps some stuff for when i swap my other 205 from 30 to 32 spline front.

YES..neither one of my 205's had that in it???
I was going through your thread and kept looking for that part.
I haven't found it anywhere in the parts from either 205.

( ford case so backwards ) parts blow up . part # 83 is the one. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/Diagrams/np205.htm

right in my build thread in the tech at the end with all the links. :doah:

will check sunday for a spare for ya. right in a box in my tool box at work. will be there sunday to strip a 8lug 44 i got parts sold from. note written and on my wallet also.

Yep thats it Brett....I would appreciate the check to see if you got one....I can't believe its not in either one, but they do both look like they've been apart before. I also had a worn shifter fork, but luckily 3 of the ones I have are the same, so I had a spare for that.
Thanks again!

That is odd I just took apart a ford case of an unknown year and swapped both outputs in my 82 chevy case and neither had the spacer.
My chevy case did have a much different front outpout than anything
i've seen online with the shift collar/clutch had a much different fork and the collar itself was in a case that rode up and down in a assembly with connecting rods. I ended up using the ford shift fork on my swap.

thats they synchro output he is swapping out, and i don remember seeing those spacers either? maybe they have always been stuck with oil? ive almost always jsut direct bench swapped em, hope im not missin something!

you sir had a syncro 205 early 80's 205 . thats why he is swaping stuff around. he is converting a syncro to a non as he is going 32 spline front .

Sounds like the same exact thing I just did except I also swapped the rear for my slip yoke elimanator:D And thanks for your write up btw:D

If you guys need any of those little NP205 parts I have lots of everything.

awesome Brett, PM on the way....by the way, recognize this:

after having two of these apart, I think Its a thrust washer from the spare front output.

I have a pic of that odd looking syncro fork in my Iron Maiden thread....its required and is unique to the syncro type front output assy. It is thinner, on the tips, and has nylon inserts to go on the syncro ring.
Check it out.

That thrust washer goes behind the front out-put front ball bearing. The washer goes between the ball bearing and gear.

I thought that too. I had to remove and use the whole 205 front output assy from my spare 205 to put on my new 32 spline output....
