What would the shift rails look like in 2 high?

This is the pattern for 4H.

being that this thread has 28 views, and no replies I will take a stab at it. I am sure the minute I reply all of a sudden 20 different people will chime in. Since 4-LO is right next to 2-HI the shorter rod needs to be pulled out one notch, and the longer rod needs to go back one notch.

@wazzabie this is just a guess from bad memory…

Since the stick pivots, 4lo (stick all the way forward) pushes both rails all the way in. Conversely, 4hi (stick all the way rearward) should pull them all the way out. 2hi relies on the odd shape of the crossbar to bind and only pull 1 rail out 1 notch (from both being all the way in).

I believe your correct. I have my NP205 transfer case out right now, and it should be in 2-HI. The long rod is all the way out with pivot bracket up against it, and the short rod looks to be one notch forward.

I think my shift rails are getting worn and causing some wonky shift patterns.
I wonder if it is dirt in the detents, ot maybe the interlock pins inside the case. The old '72 that I had worked perfectly with the stock shifter. I didn't have to work on it, but the previous owner possibly did.

And I believe that your original picture contradicted the positions. As @nvrenuf posted, with the rails all of the way into the case, that's 4 low.

Funny this thread popped up...
I changed my oil today. Took a good look under it all and behold!
What i thought was a 203 is in fact a 205! Yay!
I glanced up under it when I bought it. Between that and the FULL TIME FOUR WHEEL DRIVE label GM put on the sun visor I really thought it was a 203...

Anyways, runs better with the oil change, as all chevys do!
