hello,

I broke the coupler/sleeve between the NP205 and SM465 dumping the clutch @ around 3000 RPM in a sand drag yesterday
it is 10-Spline figure 8 version

is there any company selling stronger couplers than stock ones ?

we break these couplers frequently and we want a permanent solution if possible

thanks,
Ahmed

I didn't get a chance to check it yesterday but sure it will be like the one you've posted

I here that advance adapters makes a stronger one problem is the stronger the material the more likely it will break when shocked is what i was told by them. How good or worn was the one that broke when i split my tcase and transmission mine was 90 percent gone so i got mine from here and have had no issues. $46.75 http://tbtrans.com/transmission_parts.htm#chev_truck_parts

here is a pic of how bad mine was worn

so what will be a good alternative to eliminate this issue for ever ?
I will be racing this truck a lot and I don't want to keep breaking this thing everytime
SM465/NP205 with round adapter ?

also why there are two sleeves with different lengths?
which one shall I buy ?

6259656 Coupler, NP205 to SM465 4.25"
6263040 Coupler, NP205 to SM465 4.75"

I could make one out of 300M with EDMd splines and a bigger OD for about $600. :D

Find a 32 spline SM 465/205 combo. No coupler, and much stronger.

well i dont know if i just got lucky, or if this actually works, but breaking 3 or 4 couplers after droping the clutch in the mud i noticed there is always a slight amount of play in them.

mind you it is a used transmission/tcase and i have never bought a new coupler, always used ones from my collection of junk trucks, but nothing looked to bad to use.
so any ways all i did was clean any oil/dirt/grime from the coupler, transmission, and transfer case, and load the coupler up with silicone, bolted the transfer case to the adapter housing and let it dry. never had a problem since, and i beat the hell out of my truck

Agree completely...

BTW, if your output shaft (or input shaft) is worn and you only replace the sleeve, plan on breaking another sleeve...

thanks for the replies

what models should I look for the 32 spline SM 465/205 combo
