I was reading a 10-year old article in Four Wheeler Magazine that says you guys at ORD have a Strut Rod brackets that go from the transfer case to the trans bell housing. I looked on you web site, but I do not see one. Here is the link to the article. You have to scroll almost to the bottom of the article to find the subject I am talking about.

Saw that article myself and turned up nothing, ended up just using all poly bushings from energy suspension on the adapter and side of the tcase as well as engine mounts on my first Gen but I'm not sure about the brackets on the square body bc my 84 doesn't have much for cross members or side mounts. They could be missing of course. However I heat the bracket we ate searching for is known to break easily anyhow

i recall that issue of the mag . they got me hooked on the ord crack wagon . . . :doah::yikes::haha:

and that m.o.o parts guy with his yellow crap SUCKED donkey balls . . . he screwed me over and stuff fit like crap . he didnt last long after this and i sold his crap off and went ord .

back to orignal question tho : stupid simple to make . . . grab a stick of round stock and fab one up .

Definitely on the wagon! :waytogo:

If somebody made one that I could just bolt up it would be nice. I tried making one, but that was a fail. I will probably try to make one again since nobody seems to make one. I am sure if I worked at it a little harder at it, I could eventually get one made that fits correct.

Mounting the transfer case to the frame can crack the transfer case. The one I am talking about goes from the transfer case to the transmission bell housing.

The rod is likely a dealer only item, I've never heard of any company reproducing them. It can be tough to find if the parts guy isn't familiar, iirc it's listed as a motor mount.

Sounds like a part somebody could start manufacturing for the old square bodies. It is one of those things that most people do not think about. Unless you are somebody that gets into the darkest deepest depths of building a solid square body.

Crack the trans housing more likely but yes, if I were going to fabricate one I would definitely go big or go home. I'd connect the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock bell bolts to the tcase in an H design (for ease of mental picture). I may do this for my 8.1/ally/205 combo while it's all on the stand

I just read that, only thing I find is that ORD sells new t-case adapters, didn't see where it said they had the rods?

This ^^ The article is talking about adapters, not support rods.

From the link -
Make sure you have the proper-length driveshaft. It's also important to make sure that the strut rod from the bellhousing to the side of the transfer case be retained to help keep the transfer case from flexing. Often, this part is removed and discarded by the unknowing when swapping transmissions or transfer cases. Off Road Design offers new or used replacement adapters.

No strut rod from us at this point

I am going to have to take the one I built, and cut up some of the sections. Then reattach back together. The first time I built my own strut rod, it did not clear the exhaust system correctly.

You know they are available used.
I have a set or 2.
Not sure if they were the same for 205 and 208 but I pulled a set from my 91 crew cab with 205

PM sent. Also, you are talking about the strut rod that goes from the transfer case to the bell housing, and not the ones that go from the flex plate/flywheel cover to the engine mounts...because I have those?

Yeah the long rod with 2 holes and bolts to the side of the tcase

I have a 700R4/NP208 rod that I just took off of my rig. It got cut into two pieces during removal, so shipping will be cheap if you wanna weld it back together. :wink1:

I want to see a set of these strut rods that go from flex plate/flywheel cover to the engine mounts for 700R4/208.

Might have to find a set for sale!
