np205 transfer-furd question

My son's truck, '76 f250 transfer case went out. It is a divorced np205, auto. I have an np205, married unit that went behind a manual. Are the guts the same in these? I don't suppose I could fit the married unit up any way?

input gear would differ
front output shaft may differ but should be swappable

what "went out"?
