np205 trouble

i have an np205 with a 700r4 trans in my 1980 blazer. my problem is im unable to shift the transfercase at all. i tried a few times to get it to move, and now when i put the trans into drive/reverse etc theres an intense grinding coming from under my truck. im thinking the linkage is seized. whats the best way to get it unstuck? what the best lube to use to ensure this doesnt happen again?

If you have a tunnel cover remove the boot and the cover and look at the linkage, or crawl underneath and look. Make sure the parts don't have too much slop.

I would start with any silicone type lube so it doesn't attract dirt. Remember to block the tires so it doesn't roll or just put it on jackstands and that would take any force off the linkage.

clean linkage.

you obviously moved it, its jus not engauged all the way.
205 can be tricky, takes some elbow grease.

you prolly all the way up top (4low) mine grinds and is tricky up there too. gear drive takes gettin used to.

make sure tranny in neutral and give it some gusto, show it whos boss

stock 205 linkage and shift rails need lots of lube.

also check i bet your piviot bolt or shifter has a grease fitting grease it.

and the nature of the 205 is a little tricky to shift. sometimes i got to be rolling slow to get 4wd to 2wd movement.

and when going from 4wd to 4 low be stoped and in nutral .

also incase you dont know its

4wd low front most
n
2wd high
4wd high back most

and just for info sake twin sticking a 205 thay shift a lot easyer.

just if anyone was interested, i fixed the shift rail problem, but discovered i have a np208 shifter on a np205!!! does anyone know where i can get a shifter retainer for an np205 shifter? i already have the shifter for a np205, but no retainer plate.........

I have no idea what you mean by a "retainer plate". The 205 shifter bolts to the adapter with a bolt and then there is a small linkage piece that goes from the shifter to the crossbar on the shift rails.

im talking about the peice that holds the shifter boot to the "hump" inside the truck.
