So I have this terrible noise when in 4th gear and hope that replacing the input and output bearings (and seals etc.) should take care of it. As always I cant just do the task at hand I also need to complicate things and look for an "upgrade".

So I bought a twin stick kit from JBFab http://www.jbfab.net/ Great price, fair shipping to NV, quailty product. Contacted tech about the "cross shifting" problem and what provisions or modifications to the T-case are required to prevent being in front low and rear high gears, sends PDF, looks simple enough went for it. For a discounted rate it even includes aluminum shift nobs.

First thing, the bolt they sent for insertion to hold the sticks to the trans/t-case adapter is like 9/16" - the one I removed is 7/16".

Question: does anyone know what size their shift selector support bolt is?

I have run into two different thread sizes for the support bolt. The smaller size came from a 1969 or a 1968 truck.
I can't remember what size the treads were. What year is your transfer case?

I have no idea what the actual year of the case is. The K5 is a 72 and from the VIN etc it came w/a SM465 and 205. I hardly expect it to be original but it's starting to look that way.

Heres jfab.net response and he is sending me the parts.

Not knowing exactly where the parts are from makes mods tough. I bought one of these kits for a friend who has a newer 205 and his worked out just fine.

I think the smaller size is on the older NP205s, but I have an NP205 here at my house that is from a 1972, or said the data plate, and it has the larger bolt.

By the way it wasn't the Transmission - anyone have a noise in 4th only on deceleration?
