Just moved my axle 1.5" forward and now my driveshaft is about 1.5"-2" too short, no where close to hooking up.

I have a NP208, can I unhook the front driveshaft and drive it like that for a few days or a week?

Also, can the factory 1/2 ton slip yoke driveshaft be lengthened by about 2" or so? Is this something that driflveshaft shops will usually do?

Yes you can drive it without the front drives haft and have no problems. And yes a driveshaft shop should be able to modify and lengthen your driveshaft

Yes to all your questions, I have done the same thing. Shouildnt be too expensive to have it made to your specs...

Good stuff, thanks guys.

Moving the axle 1.5" forward mad a huge difference, I'm gonna do a little fender trimming around the front bottom in a few minutes.

Thanks again!!!

There are a few options:

-Get the 1" driveshaft spacer. I did this when I moved my front axle forward 1". Solved the length issue and helped with crossmember clearance. Might be long enough for you.
-Get the shaft retubed to be 1.5" longer or whatever you need. You probably have some lift and need something like 2 or 2.5" longer anyway.
-Get a longer slip yoke and spline. This will likely cost more money than a retube, but if your suspension is flexy the stock slip joint can end up too short. Plus it makes the shaft longer using the same tube.

EDIT: having said all that...I was looking at replacing a slip spline once. With parts, welding and balance it came out within about $40 of having a custom shaft made up. So I did that and gained the longer slip and a brand new C/V instead reusing part of the old shaft. You might be surprised if you price out this option.
