I started to blow my np208 up last summer in my '86 k5. One of my friends wrecked his '87 chevy truck. It had a 4 speed in it with a np208 So I took it out of his truck and put it in my truck and got it all together and started the truck up and put it in gear and it didn't do anything. So my buddy took it out today and when I got home I starting thinking are the shafts in a Th350 and a 4 speed the same width? I checked both and no. So I am working on changing out the female input on both cases. Is there any info out there on putting these cases back together?
Thanks for all the help
Adam

I`ve takin mine a part before and put it back together. Its not hard, pretty simple really. Take some pictures before you take it a part so you have a reffence if you need one.

I found the same problem with a free 208 from a th350 having a different spline count than the th400 so I looked at doing the same thing with input shafts and found the free one all rusted up inside. To make a long story short the teardown and rebuild was surprisingly simple and I have never had a 'case apart before that day. Just do it all in one sitting, not days or weeks in between.

Watch out for the needle bearings they go everywhere. These are pictures from when we had mine apart in the desert. It took us about 4 hours and noone in the group had ever had a 208 apart. That time included taking pieces back to the shop and welding them back together.

There is also an exploded diagram on here somewhere.

OH ya just take the input from your old one and put it in the one from the 4 speed. They are all the same (GM ones atleast) other than the input spline count.

Yeah I all ready have the good Np208 apart up to the input. I did take some pics....but when I take the onther one back together I will take a lot of pics. Yeah I found both sets of the needle bearings GRR.
I will do some research. I will really tear into it tomarow.
Thanks for all the help.

I need to do another one , I already forgot my spur of the moment trick to hold those damn bearings :doah:

I did my brothers 208 (dodge style) and with it on the bench and rear output down we got it apart without having to pull the shafts apart. We were able to leave the bearings in place. Prolly could not do it again if my life depended on it though:doah: .

I thought about trying that on my original case but I doubit it would worlk because the last two times I drained the fluid I had golf size metal chunks fall out with all the fluid :doah:

I got the case done.... two spacer rings on the out put shaft for the front driveshaft went bad. Plus my forks where worn The maine part of the case (The gears) looked good. I looked it over and just went ahead and stuck it in the new case. I got everything together and checked to see how it shifted. It is a little stiff but It should lossen up when I put some fluid in it. I will see how good I did tomarrow. When I get it back into my truck and hook the 4 wheel back up:laugh:

I was just lookling over the exploded view and I think I screwed up something on my T-case. Does the spring go inbetween the shift forks or between the shift fork and the case??????
Thanks
