NP208 Help!!!

I went up to sierra summit last weekend, and on my way through lakeshore, i hit some HUGE potholes. I also got it stuck in the snow and had to yank it out. I got home and parked it. The next day, I noticed red fluid leaking from the t-case rear output shaft. It is coming out where the output shaft links with the rear drive shaft. How do I fix this. I know how a t-case works, but I'm not a 4x4 mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The truck is an 88 K5 Blazer TBI with a 12 bolt rear on 6" lift and 35" A/T's.

If you are refering to the output seal it is really easy. Remove the drive line and it is that easy. remove and slap in a new seal.

if it's coming from the slip yoke it shoud just be the seal, but i'd change the bushing also while you have the drive shaft and seal out

Like I said, I'm not a mechanic, but it's coming from the thing that looks like an x between the output shaft and the drive shaft. Also, how do I put more oil into the t-case so I know I'm safe to get it to the shop. The tow trucks around here cost an arm and a leg. Is it tranny fluid or gear fluid?

trans fluid. if you look at the rear of the tcase there are 2 really large identical plugs on the rear. one high one low. fill the top one till fluid pours out. and that you are describing is the ujoint. the fluid sounds like it is from the seal on the tcase right in front of that. take it to a shop to be safe and get it done right.

That X is the U-joint. I have read about the yoke itself leaking fluid and the fix is to epoxy the hole in the yoke shut. But check the output seal first.

yeah sometimes the slip yoke has a small hole in it for whatever reason. that one got me for a while one time.

I think my seal has a slow leak just enough to make everything wet with tranny fluid, but it never actually drips on the driveway. Anyway, I think this may be my driveline vibe issue.

if its the output shaft seal thats an easy fix just tap it out and put in a new one. also check to see if your bushing is ok while your at it...

a quick way to check that is to put the trans in N and e-brake and chock the wheels, then see if theres up and down play in the driveshaft while its inside the transfer case. if it wiggles a little, you ought to replace it.

it's just a sleeve in the tail shaft of the t-case right behind the seal, the only way i know of changing it is to pull the case apart and change it like that

Oh, the case has to come apart? I was gonna just change it out while I had the tailshaft housing off but nevermind that. I'll just change the output seal and hope that was the problem causing my drivline vibes and my tiny slow leak.

It's really hard to tell if it wiggles around in there, it moves alittle, but it's difficult to distinguish why or where.

its inside the tailhousing, when you remove the seal its right behind it. youll see it all scarred up and ****. remove the bearing and wrap it up then bang out the bushing and replace it with a new one.

i meant all you have to do is pull off the tail shaft housing

It ended up being the slip yolk end cap. I guess i was playing too rough! Really simple fix though. The guy pushed it back in and spread some silicone over it to make sure it wouldn't push out again. I need to invest in a slip yolk eliminator.
