I got a rebuilt NP208 a few years back to replace my worn out, leaking, no shifting one. Ever since I got it, it will leak from the top of the case area (breather) after drives over 15-20 miles. It isnt a huge leak, maybe one or 2 drops after a drive like this. I top the fluid off and go on my way every few months. I am not transfering oil from my tranny into the TC, and am stumped as to why it keeps blowing oil out. Any ideas or clue on how to fix this? Anyone experienced this?

Check and see if it comes from the shifter seals or speedo seal?

Is it overfilled and blowing out the top?

Filled about 1/4 inch below the plug. It's not coming from anywhere visible below the fill line of the case. Only leaking down from the top

Everything I listed above is up on the top portion. The lowest thing listed above should be the Speed-o plug.

It could be the top portiong of the adaptor seal or gasket is leaking.

I'll check again, but every time I look the speedo attachment area does not appear to be the cause. Gotta wipe it all down and go for a drive

What kind of fluid are you putting in? Typically the 208 was spec'ed for ATF, but sometimes you find people putting gear oil in them.

As for the fill height, it's interesting to note that the Dodge 208 had the fill plug about 1.5" lower than the Chevy version.

Running ATF in the case. It's definitely not coming from the speedo housing. I will drain case next and see how much comes out. If it's much more than 2.5 quarts, looks like I found my problem.

God if its clocked just f'ing forget it. I put 5 qts in mine one time after it was rebuilt and had clocked it up upon reinstall. I woke up to a lake under my truck the next morning as the positive pressure over the front output just pushed right past the seal...
