NP208 skid protection

You'll probably just have to weld one up yourself. Not too many people on here do hardcore wheeling with their 208s, so I'll be surprised if anyone has built one...

I do some hardcore wheelin with my 208, but still have the stock skid plate. I think if you search you will find some designs, they will probably be for the doubler tcase, but you can get an idea.

maybe something like this

I don't know about hardcore wheeling, but the rig will be wheeling in the rocks 4-6 times a year ( Krocks, Clayton Ok and Disney Ok). It will need some protection from the rocks.

What does the stock one look like (mine didn't come with one)? Can it support the weight of the rig?

I have the stock skid plate under the 208 on my '86. It is not the best thing around. Minimal coverage. Hangs out just from the one stock cross member. Someday I would like to add some more steel along the angled upward sides and attach another crossmenber at the back. The stock skid plate has protected the t-case for 22 years and it has some serious skars on it. It is OK for moderate wheeling. Would not recommend hard rockcrawling with it though.

I hardcore wheeled a 208, three of them actually! I just pulled out the last one, well all the pieces of it. Here is how I built mine, It worked great for a while.

I took a piece of rectangular tubing that I had laying around and cut notches in it on the upside in the middle and the bottom side on the outside. this made it into a sort of u shape

I then drilled holes in either side so that the stock spacers would slide through.

after I fitted it up to make sure it would work I welded the cuts I had made up.

I did this part after I clocked the 208. I am trying to find some pics of the skid I built off of this...

Ill get some pics of it later, Its laying out back of the shop. If you are anywhere near Ga $40 and its yours. I also have a clocking ring for a 208, Let me make sure I dont F it up using it to drill holes for the np203

it's pretty small, but stronger than it looks. mine has plenty of scratches from sliding over rocks and dirt. the existing stock crossmember will hold the whole truck. the skidplate itself wouldn't because it just sticks out from the member. you'd need to add a new member to bolt to the other end of the plate.

clock up the 208 and build a skidplate...

Things you will need:
Clocking Ring: DIY4x
1 Inch Body Lift: Offroad Design
Longer Front driveshaft with CV portion grinding for more angle.
Steel for skidplate.

once your drivetrain is up out of the weeds you will do oh so much better on the rocks.

ORD is to have a KIT or some kind of Skid Plate Bracket for the T-CASE some where in the SHOP. Though I have never seen it advertised. I know they have at least two of them I was thinking of checking them out...

how does the 208 shift after you clock it? doesnt that change things? how much longer driveshaft? I already have a long travel, would I need more? Thanks -Ryan
