I am looking for info or links on what or how this is done. I have searched but was wondering if there was a write up or anything. Thanks in advance Denny

Looking through those, would it be possible to take one of these
http://www.driveshaftsuperstore.com/drive_shaft_SYE.htm

, then remove the main shaft from the 208, bring it to a machine shop, have them drill and tap a hole in the center, reinstall the shaft and bolt this short shaft to the main shaft, then put your new yoke on and go from their??? To me that sounds like the easiest thing, heck you could take the slip yoke from your driveshaft, throw it on a lathe and cut it off, then weld one of those round flanges to mount the yoke to on it (at a shop of course so its centered). Im sure its been done or theirs something to my logic thats not working out right, but that seems so much easier and less sketchy than the whole dodge case and everything. Or am i a tard:D

Here im in CAD Class so I drew it up, throw a bolt through and a yoke on??

Or is the whole purpose of the dodge 208 rear case to get the shorter rear tail housing for better driveshaft angle??

EDIT: Oh nevermind lol, guess its the hack and tap method. Darn i felt smart for a minute lol.

Actually there is an easier way if you don't need it to be shorter, get a yoke from a fixed yoke 2wd th400, drill the end of the 208 output shaft and tap it, that yoke takes a 1/2" bolt and washer. You don't even need to take out the shaft to drill it, it already has a pilot hole and the bolt doesn't have to be dead center.

Doing it this way would save the hassle but with a big lift would most likely still need a CV right? As the other SYE kits make the tail shaft so much shorter allowing for better angles.

But is their any real gain to doing this to a say 4" lifted rig? My guess is no

Just tryin to learn some stuff I guess. :D

Well when you have an 8-12" lift, yeah the 4" you gain from a shorter tail shaft makes a big difference, but with a 4", it's not that much.
As for a CV, I would put a CV on every driveshaft if I could because it makes for a smoother drive all around.

I see, me and a buddy were talking about it yesterday, since we have the resources of a welding and machine shop at the college, if we were to make up some sort of jig to set up the dodge rear case half with all the neccecary mods needed, and make a bunch of cases, if anybody would want to buy them... Just a thought, hes got a few chevy 208s laying around, and we could prolly find some dodge ones for parts and such, if anything i would just like to try to do one just to say I can:thumb:
