I'll preface this by saying I have never had an NP208 apart before. Anyway, I have a loose chain in my NP208 behind my SM465 in my '88 Suburban (was an auto, the tranny/transfer case is out of a no option 1985 K10). I got a used NP208 from a guy out of an '89 K5 Blazer (must have been an early one to not have the NP241) from behind a TH700R4. It wasn't a direct swap because I have a 32 spline input, and the one I got was a 27 spline input. I figured I would just swap chains, it couldn't be that hard. I disassembled both of them, and then put the 27 spline one back together with the stretched chain. When I was putting mine back together, I notcied it didn't have a brass synchronizer ring on the 4x4 shift mechanism. The '89, 27 spline one did? Should I have that? Is it something to do with automatic hubs on the Suburbanm, and manual hubs on the K10? Did I drop it on the floor and it rolled away while I wasn't paying attention?

I've had a few 208's apart and recall that there were some differences in the mainshaft but do not recall the sycro's being different.

I wish I would have taken a couple of pictures. One had a brass synchro ring, one didn't. The one that did was out of a Blazer, that probably had automatic hubs. The one that didn't, came out of a no option K10 that had manual lockout hubs. That is just a thought though. Anyone else notice this before?

I just recently took apart a 208 out a auto hub k5 and it had a brass syncro. At the same time i took apart a 32 spline 208 from a 83 and it still had the brass syncro ring.
