NP208 Tail Cone - gasket?

OK, I've sealed up the tail cone about 3 times now and still have a persistant leak that springs up from the mating surface (not the seal) after a few weeks. Q: has anyone found or fabricated a thin gasket rather than using silicone? I'm very frustrated now and have come to the determination that silicone and ATF don't play well (RTV ultra black).

I like the gray stuff. From dealing with loctite, the gray loctite brand actually hardens to basically the same durometer as an o-ring. Tough stuff. My guess is that something is awry and not sitting flat. Or Perhaps there is a crack there that you are missing?
