Is this a reasonable swap or is it good to just go with the 208. what is involved in making the 205 work behind my 465 trany to a 208 combo. I want to get rid of the 208 but dont have that much money to change. Here is the other thing I need to get new drive shafts built or have mine rebuilt to be a little bit longer. Please Help???

Staying with your NP208 would be the cheapest and easiest way to go.

If you really wanted to switch to 205, it could be done, but it would be expensive. You'd need an adaptor and the 205 (and the linkage etc) from an '85-'91 1 ton 4x4 with a factory 465/205 combo. These are hard to find, and expensive when you can find one.

As far as driveshafts go, I don't know if the 208 is longer or shorter than the 205, so I can't help you there.

so stay with 208

Ok so im going to stay with 208 but what could be done with the clanking noise that im getting. its only when it is in 4 wheel drive and when there is a load on it. thanks

check your tranny and motor mounts, my tranny mounts were toast and it caused my t-case to hop up and down when i gave it gas in 4wd and i made a weird banging noise. check those items.

Perhaps its time for a new chain.

ok thanks

Im thinkin of checking my motor and tranny mounts and then on to the chain is there one that is stronger then the other. because ive been told that these transfer cases hate high horse power that is what ive got alot of. 350-400 hp want more also but the thing that i do have is torque also its somewhere around 450 to 525 ft lbs. thanks for the help
