hey guys im looking ata truck witha np208

its 350/th400/np208

are these chain or gear driven?

are they tough at all?

im coming off a crappy 203 that never shifted right.

was gonna go np205 never researched anythign about a np208...

light to medium off roading and pavement pounding probly 4-6lift (it has 3" or 4" now) and some 36" tires...

208s are aluminum cased, chain drive units. I like them just fine. If you aren't falling off ledges onto them with rocks they can be tough. I wouldn't run a healthy big block in front of one but your setup I wouldn't worry about. Heck I'm running a 355, 4 speed, NP241(the 208s non-identical twin brother), and 40" IROKs with locker front and welded rear. You will know if I bust the Tcase, there will be a very angry thread.

The 208 is chain driven. It's weaknesses are:
1. Aluminum case
2. Slip yoke

The case usually isn't a problem unless you come down hard on a rock and crack it.

The slip yoke is a PITA. Especially if you have a 6" lift. You'll probably have to get a C/V shaft and even then it's not good. You might wanna explore different options:

1. Get a 241, you can get SYE kits for 'em
2. Get parts from a dodge fixed-yoke 208 and convert yours
3. Get a 205

Hope this helps

problem with a 241 is this, hard to find. Its harder to find an NP241 behind a 4 speed or a th400(same output). I was lucky enough to locate and purchase an 89 3/4 ton Suburban that had a 4 speed and a NP241. The guy was a little batty up stairs and special ordered the truck the way it was(STRIPPED).

hrm well atleast it should be fine for a while.

what about a transfer case drop to fix that rear angle?

might need some help installing a np205 in texas blazerguy you wanna help =p?

the transfer case drop is real easy. just take the four bolts out of the cross member that attach the cross member to the frame and you will find 1" spacers on the top sde of the frame. simply put them under the frame and you got a 1" drop. i found it easiest to do one side at a time.

thanks for letting me know how to do it i was just wondering if th TC drop would fix the angle problems

might not fix them alone. when i put my 14 bolt in i had to grind off and then re-weld on the spring perches to adjust pinion angle. then after that i still had vibration so i dropped the t-case. that helped a lot. i think you need a combo of both.
