I have an 88 k5 and the owners manual suggests atf fluid for the transfer case. I was reading some threads about 205 and 203 and they say its ok to use 80-90w oil because its thicker. Could i run this in my transfer case or not?

atf is what i have in it now. Its slipping out of 4 HI and i didnt know if a thicker fluid would help or if its time for a rebuild

the last 208 that did that to me was in bad need of a rebuild, but it could also be that the linkage is not adjusted correctly.

i wouldn't run 80w-90 in a 208, its too thick.

on the linkage to the tcase, at the shifter end is 2 jam nuts and the part that hooks in the shifter. loosen both nuts, put the tcase in 4low, put the shifter in 4low, and adjust till it just slides in the shifter. then tighten the nuts.
