I just got done rebuilding my transfer case nP208 I made sure to keep all of the proper thrust washers and thrust bearings together everything seem to go back together Fine I was sort of scared because I’ve never done anything like this it cycles through all of the gears fine but I noticed when I put it in neutral and if I tip the rear driveshaft up and spin it it makes a grinding soundBut when I flatten it back out it doesn’t make the sound did I do something wrong I would appreciate any help or any suggestions:thinking:
 
What do you mean tip it up? The tail shaft or the driveshaft? Are you just spinning the output shaft when you do this or are you spinning the whole driveshaft? Does it have fluid in it?

Does it have fluid in it is on my workbench it has about half a quart of fluid in it I was waiting to fill it up until I stuck it back in the truck and if I tip the output shaft that would connect to the rear driveshaft up in the air and spin any of the
so I found a video of a guy that has the same problem as I do and he shows that it is a planetary ring gear still slightly hitting the gear that’s bolted to the transfer case but he doesn’t say what’s causing it or how to fix it and it only happens when it is in neutral
 
I almost missed your response that it's still on the workbench because you put it inside the message you quoted. The output shaft shouldn't be able to move enough to effect the alignment of anything inside. It's possible the yoke contacting the output bushing would stop this. Can you measure the endplay? Why were you rebuilding and what has been replaced?
