NP241 Doubler

Or you could cut a piece of aluminum tube length wise then notch the crawler box and weld the C into it. This should allow the shift rail closest to the box to be used. I would think it would be the easiest and cheapest solution.

I think someone should talk to him about being a vendor on this board. I think if more people here knew about his proucts he could keep building the 241 doubler. His doubler is a great and cheap alt. for fullsize gear reduction.

Wasn't the 241 used in the Dodge 1 ton Diesels? That would be a lot of torque especially if it was behind a NV4500.

The 241 HD case was used in the Dodges, not the 241 standard. Even the 241 HD's have had problems in the Dodges when they are applied with hard use like sled pulling. Dodge guys are swapping in a bigger stronger NV case to deal with the power.

One of the Canadian vendors was talking about doing these but AFAIK they never put them on the market. I gathered parts hoping it would happen and was originally wanting to a 241 behind a 203 range box. The general consensus in that old thread was it would be better to cut up the 241 and put a 205 behind it.

I'll bet he's too busy staring at his truck on the cover of this months fourwheeler

Daniel, whats the status? Did you get this thing to work yet?

I tigged the two aluminum block-off plates to the cut case. And I finally got the replacement 27 spline shaft so I can actually put this thing together now. I yanked the interior out to cut and make an new floor for better case clearence. I will also need to fab up a new crossmember. And install the cage at the same time. I just have a lot of work in front of me and very little time. It will probably be a couple weeks before I have everything together.

Cool deal on the cover! I will have to pick it up! Your rig has always been real clean and mean looking! Good luck with your project:)

The Ramcharger? You must be talking about the May issue? I was just checking out their website and that's what I saw on the April cover.

well, that's what I was figuring, dood. Like I said, I looked on the Fourwheeler site. I have been around here long enough to know DPI's rig when I see it.

Well, I got the doubler installed, the double crossmember fabbed up and installed, and the new removable tranny cover tacked together. I went on a test drive today and everything seems to be working good with no strange noises or leaks. Now I will pull the cover out, tig it together and install it. I may go with a bedliner material to replace the carpet, but I want to know if there will be an issue with heat...

Next will be the cage. Its ready to install, I just need some time to do it...

The extra driveshaft length will be nice. Replacing those busted HAD 1350 cv joints get expenses.:eek1: Actually I went with a Tom Woods SuperFlex joint and it seem to work fine, except for the bad harmonic vibration from the offset trunion.

Looks good, I am digging the extra large removable tranny tunnel.

Yeah, the first rebuild of the tunnel was welded in when I installed the Atlas. I had to cut that one out too, so when I had to do it again, I just made it bolt in. It is really nice to be able to get to everything from the top.

Daniel, what did you do in the way of shifting the 241 doubler? I don't see pic's of the shifter?

Glad you were able to get it together. The crossmember building part is a deterrent for a lot of people. Obviously with your skills it was not a problem.

Your fab work looks A+ as always! Let me know how that LOW--LOW is :)

There is a huge allen wrench next to the drivers seat. I fabbed a allen headed insert for the shifter. The insert is inline with the existing shifter bracket assembly. The allen wrech pivot point is in the center of the shifter bracket pivot point so it basically moves in a circle. There will be a rubber grommet that will let me insert the allen wrench when needed. Or I could leave it in if I wanted. The allen wrench has plenty of leverage to easily shift the 241 and its removable so it takes up zero space when removed...
