Yesterday I decided to drain the t-case. To my surprise, it was almost empty. I refilled it and drove it around the block. This morning, as I am driving to work I notice a cloud of smoke behind me. When I got to work, the case has blown fluid all over the under side of my truck. It looks like it is leaking down the driverside frame rail. Is that where the breather tube is? What would cause this? 89 350, 700r4, np241

mine leaks like a bitch too but its from the case half's on mine. I would check your rear drive shaft slip seal on the very back of the t-case usually this wears out then lets fluid out. also while your under there try giving the drive shaft a good shake to see if the output bearing is toast in the case as well. the seal is really easy to replace just take your drive shaft out 4 7/16" bolts on the yoke and gently pull it out being careful not to drop the slip part in the dirt. pry out the old one and gently tap in the new seal.

I will check that as well. Where is the vent tube? The po set it up as a mud truck so that could be blocked or not attached causing it to leak the fluid?

The vent tube out let on my 91 241 is on the passanger side. If you look at the shifter rod you can see the breather.

So I was finally able to crawl under my truck. I found the vent tube to be clogged. Could that have caused the trans case to spit fluid out? If so, do I need to rebuild it?
