I bought a used NP241 JB conversion SYE kit. It came with a speed sensor housing that the bearing is already pressed into. Both housings are for an electric speed sensor. When comparing the two the speed sensor is in a different position. All the mounting holes are in the same position. Is there any reason I can't use the new housing? Here is a picture of the two housings. The one that came with the SYE is black, my old one is silver. I put an extension in the sensor hole for reference.

Would there be any problem using the black housing other than the sensor is in a different position?

As mentioned above, pretty sure the black SYE version you bought is off of a driver's drop t-case. This means you have the black one upside down in the picture as the two would be a mirror image of each other. To be honest I'm not sure if the two interchange, and even if they both bolt up if there would be any other issues. Can't remember for sure as it's been a few years, but when rebuilding one seem to remember that some of the pieces looked like they had symmetrical bolt holes but they were off by a little.

I just added the SYE kit to my 241 a couple of months ago. There is nothing done to the speed sensor housing beyond pushing the new bearing in. I would swap the bearing into your housing and be done with it. If you don't have a press, a decent size vise will work just fine too. As I recall, I used a hole saw of the approx. size of the bearing and a block of wood and just pushed it right out.

I also just installed my SYE kit a few months ago. The bushing (black) looks identical to the one I received in my kit. I had to press out the old one and install the new one (black). I also put just a real thin, small coat of RTV before installing bearing. Note, the bearing will stick up just a small little bit. The new collar will also have a lip to compensate.

I assume that the height of the new housing is the same as the existing one?!? I can't imagine they would make one slightly shorter than the stock one.

I rented a bearing installer from O'Reilly's for free. Worked great!

Ok, I'll get those bearings pressed in and out.
For future reference for anybody the housing bolt holes do line up between the passenger and drivers drop, but this parts ears don't line up:

Next question, after pulling it apart I found some plastic chunks in there:

I think they came from this part

Anybody know what that plastic washer is called? I hope I can get it locally....

Thanks! Ill send you a PM
You need to replace that fork!!! it has been super hot and has quite a bit of wear on it from being forced into the shift collar. Replace the fork and make sure the shifter is adjusted correctly when you reinstall the t-case.

I'm having a hard time finding the range fork style like mine

Everything I have found so far lists something like this

Anyone know where I can find one like mine?

I just tore down a 241 and I'm not using the shift fork.

See the pic, is this the one you need?

This is a drivers drop case so I'm assuming you have a passenger drop 241 case?
