So the truck needs to go to the trans shop for a rebuild as it lost reverse. My question is should I take a look at opening up the transfer case for an minimum inspection and reasealing. I hate having a drippy and oil mess.

What is the difficult level of the transfercase as I have never opened one up...

Yeah, ATF in there. When I did my SYE to the 241, I just used the cheap blue RTV. Been running it for almost 2 years with no drip. If u want to spend a little more, I have also used "Right Stuff" gasket maker. That crap is real good too.

Or if you have a good relationship with the shop they'll do it for cheap and replace any warn forks, pads, chain, seals, etc. Sometimes, for me, it's cheaper if someone else does it. And since they are already doing your trans (which removes the Tcase anyway) maybe you can get a deal.
