I was inspecting my leak, when I noticed that 261 was clearly stamped on the tag. I am 99.99% sure that no one has ever swaped out the transfer cases.. as it's painted OEM blue, like the rest of the drive-train.. can anyone explain?

If it's painted blue, then the whole drivetrain has probably been out at some point. None of my 82 and up stuff was anything but black, and I've never seen one of the aluminum transfer cases painted.

GM NEVER painted auto trannys or T-cases. I'm going to say that someone has been messing with it in the past and who knows what they've done.

Its prolly the ratio stamped in the wrong location. Check under "ratio" on the tag and see what it says.

x2. The low range ratio is 2.61 and stamped in the tag. It's a np208.

Heres some pictures of the transfer case. Maybe someone can identify it..

Definately a 208 with a 2.61:1 low range with a production date of 4/13/83
