did they ever put a HD 5speed behind a LS? Thinking of swapping to my 5.3 & a manual 5 speed, but it has to be tough

Yes , they were available behind a 6.0 in the early GMT800 ‘s and possibly others

Yep, 6.0's got them in 3/4 ton GMT800 trucks. Using a 2001-2006 Silverado 2500 6.0/5-speed for the year/type of truck is the way to go for the correct flywheel with the correct thickness. Meaning you don't have to pay Advance Adapters the ransom they want for a "conversion" flywheel for LS swaps.

FYI….. the GMT800 6.0L trucks with a NV4500 have a unique transmission to just HDs. Mainly the transmission cover and shift tower are different from other NV4500s to make up the difference in the body height of HD trucks having a factory body lift per se.
