Nut size on a 2wd Chevy Pitman arm shaft?

Ouch that sucks. tRusty had the same thing happen and it was a real bitch to find. I want to say it's 7/8" x14. It's the size of a jam nut only like 1/2" tall and there should be a lock washer. It'll take a 1-5/16" socket, same as the lower ball joint nut on a 1/2ton axle.

You might search for a post by tRustyK5 about it, see if he has any insite on where to find it.

Yup, 7/8-14tpi. I had no luck at any fastener places, so i went to GM and bought the correct one with the correct lock washer. I am sure it was under $7...which is spendy for a nut and a washer...but not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. It was worth the $7 or so for the relief from frustration looking around elsewhere.

McMaster-Carr is a mail order place out of Atlanta similar to Grainger. I bought a small box of 7/8-14 lock nuts from them. It's the same thread as a Dana 60 pinion. I prefer using a taller nut with no lock washer. I like the increase thread contact and I just freaking hate split lockwashers. Another option for finding a nut is to find someone who put new gears in a Dana 60 and get their old pinion nut.

My Fastenal has them in stock, according to the site they come in a pack of ten, according to the guy they come in a pack of 5... These should work just fine right? Do I need a lock washer or something to go with it?

If I get them, Chad you're welcome to one, for the cost to ship it... if it's even worth doing it that way.

That's all I need to hear Scott! I haven't even pulled my 2wd box out of the box it came in, total n00b to this whole crossover steering thing.:D
