my 700r4 has messed up for the 3rd time and i am tired of messing with it so here it goes

i found an early model nv4500 that already has the advanced adapter bellhousing for a good price but i don't know if i want that low of a first gear or not should i keep looking for the later model is there any other advantage to the later model

what is the length difference between the nv4500 241 and a 700r4 with the 241 are they close enough that i won't have to modify my driveshafts

and since it already has the aa bellhousing which slave do i use and will i have enough clearance with my front drive shaft i only have a 4 or 6 inch lift not sure which

and i have a flywheel from a half ton pickup with the 5 speed getrag trans will it work or does it have a special flywheel and clutch

the more i read up on this the more confused i get lol
thanks

I can't help with the length differences, but the AA bellhousing put the slave cylinder on the other side so it doesn't hit the driveshaft. You may need their slave bracket to bolt it up.

A standard 11" flywheel and clutch will work and a 12" will even work too.

Also, the first gear in either model is too low for street driving. I start out in second most of the time.

i don't drive it much on the street maybe to work a couple times a month and to and from trails but still i wonder if it is too big of a jump between first and second

It's no different a jump than a SM 465, and there were only about 20 million of those out on the streets. First or "low" gear is never used for normal driving. You start in second and go from there, just like a SM 465. The early model is 6.34:1 low gear, the newer is 5.61:1 low gear. 99% of people would never be able to tell which one they were driving unless you told them. I have the later version with the 5.61:1 low gear.

I measured my NV4500 and it's within 1/4" overall of the 700R-4...face of the bell to the rear face of the T-case adaptor. I went with the AA bell, plus an adaptor bracket so I could run the 85-91 square body hydro clutch stuff. Advance Adaptors sells both. If you need comparison pics to the one your looking at let me know and I'll snap a few.

I had a 12 1/4" Hays clutch and it fit just fine. The flywheel is whatever was used for whatever engine you have. if the flywheel you have fits your engine you're good to go.

Given the cost differences, if you don't drive it on the street much, then you probably won't use the overdrive portion of the nv4500. The 465 would be a lot less cash.
