Are you repairing a truck or converting one? If its a conversion I'd stay away from the internal slave if you can.

i am converting one. and thats what is on the tranny now. i found it in the junk yard like that. so i figurd it would be good. what is the big problem with these? i am a mechanic and havent seen to many bad things with them.thanks for any info buddy.

The problem is, when the slave cylinder fails it takes out the clutch with it unlike the external slave. Plus to repair it involves pulling the whole tranny first rather than unbolting it from the exterior of the bellhousing. May not be as big of a deal if your time isn't as important (plus a fully equipt shop takes a lot less time anyway).

If it was my truck I'd be putting in the older hydrobellhousing with the external slave. Same one used on the SM465 works with the NV4500.

Not that I know of on the NV4500 compared to a SM465... Still 4 bolts into the bellhousing. Had an NV4500 once but sold it before I had time/money to rebuild it and install... Never got around to putting it on a 465 bellhousing though.

Kenny, still have that bellhousing from me handy? I think that has the hole spacing penned in. :) Would be handy if someone can measure the 4500's bolt pattern.

i can measure a 465 hydro bell if need be

i have been looking on the other site called pirate:rolleyes: and thay say you need a adaptor plate to mate it to the 465 bell.

You do need an adaptor plate to make a 465 bell work. I put a 465 bell up against my NV4500 and there are one or two holes out in mid-air. I'll go and measure up the hole pattern on my 4500 in a minute.

FWIW I'm going to use a bell from AA, it's $340 and saves me a ton of headaches.

Top holes are 10" apart, bottom holes are 4.625" lower than the top holes and are 10.5" apart.
