NV4500 clutch time...

I knew this day would come and luckily by being careful its lasted as long as it has but I need to start clutch shopping. I'm thinking my tax return will go towards a good setup for my dd/tow rig.
I dont know what it makes but its more than the stock clutch can handle. I'm interested in what companies guys have had good luck with.

I've been looking at southbend's con ofe. $900 and it comes with the flywheel too. Thoughts?

I have had really good luck with Zoom clutches from Summit racing. Get the heavy duty one they seem to have a better feel in the pedal.

I don't know about the NV4500 but I know everyone recommends the original Sachs clutch for the earlier (Getrag) 5 speeds and that the 13" clutches are the only ones you want, avoid all of the 12.25" stuff. Not sure how much of that carries over to the 4500.

South Bend would work great for you but an OEM clutch is likely all you need.

My personal oppinion, Southbend and Valair both make very good clutches to go behind cummins. There are many "levels" in the aftermarket cummins/standard tranny clutchs. I would never put an stock clutch back in. Because 100% certain, no engine in any of our hands is STILL 100% stock. Besides mild upgrade clutches are virtually no more money than stock junk. Sachs is stock as well on nv4500s that I've seen.


A single disk SBC Con OFE is a great upgrade for mild trucks. Valair would make a similar clutch. If you use a 13" clutch you have to upgrade the input shaft to larger nv5600 style input shaft. you don't need that.

I'd just blow through it again. The truck has a 0 fuel plate, elbow that blocks the wastegate up to 30psi and the afc is pretty dialed in. Not a ton of power but more than a stocker can handle.



I keep hearing good things about southbend so I'm leaning that way. Once I have cash in hand I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

Southbend, second to none! Ran their dual disc's in my Cummins for years. Just recently put one of their single disc clutches in my K20 and love it!
