Hey Hey Hey! Wanted to gather some suggestions. I am searching for a NV4500 setup. Don't really know what route to go with.

Here's the deal:
I recently bought a 87 Blazer for 2k off craigslist... the 700r4 took a dump on me when I got on I-405. Guy was nice enough to tow it home for me??!! I was going to take the 12 inch springs off and put it on the 71 but then realized my dream of a 15 inch lift back in early 20's was too much and that I'd be fine with something a little less. So the good news is... I put a tranny in from craigslist.. bought some 38's for 100 bucks and sold the pickup last friday for 4700! Very Awesome :pimp:! Now I have some spending money for the 71.

So I am going to buy my wheel/tire combo and also a NV4500.

I have the TH-350/NP205 setup taken out. Had a couple questions. Would I be better off buying a NP208/NP241 to bolt on to the NV4500? NP205 32 spline would be choice.. but it seems they are a lil more hard to find. I don't mind spending some cash on this combo but I don't want to break the bank. Also would it be ideal for me to buy the kit from Advance Adapters to use my 27 spline 205? (not thinkin so? because $950)

Also, could anyone recommend a good deal on a NV4500? I've been lookin on EBAY and don't know if I should go NEW or REMAN? any experience? Anyone have other suggestions other then the EBAY route? :doah:

I just sold my GEN V motor plus air gap manifold for $1000 and then picked up a GEN VI Vortec for $1500! This truck is goin to be all crusin... no wheelin, but I still want to light all 4 tires up. So if anyone could throw me a bone hear on the tranny and tcase... I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Here is the 87 Sold Last Friday! Great lookin paint on this truck. Used rubbing compound and made it shine! Like Everyone always says... goin to end up sayin one day "shouldn't have sold it!"

I converted my 27 spline 205 to 32 spline. It's not that hard but does require the input bearing bore be opened up to fit the larger bearing. It's supposed to be pretty easy for any machine shop to do.

If you find a 4wd nv4500, you could get a cheaper adaptor for the Figure 8 style 205. The round pattern 205 might even bolt right up.

Thanks bp71k5. Been reading your thread on your swap. Soo much to do it seems! I know its goin to be a project!!

If you're sure you want the nv4500, you can check the place online I got mine from. I looked for a very long time in wrecking yards and ebay. They're somewhat hard to find since they are popular with the jeep and the GM stuff. And then you have to worry about whether the previous owner ran the right lube or not.

I think the only advantages to the 4500 are the OD and the shifting is supposed to be smoother than the 465.

I would def go nv4500, if they hold up to a Dodge Cummings then a gasser shouldn't hurt it if you run the right lube and if you hear any noises from it tighten the 5th gear lock nut! I love mine. I would go with a 241 over the 205 though. You said it will be a street queen so it should hold up but then you get the lower low if you do want it. 2.72 to the 205 t case at 1.96.You could get a pass drop one which is harder to find. Then I think you need 32 spline count input to go into the nv4500. You could steal this out of drivers side drop one though. They are easy to iinterchange, just need the same years because they changed the bearing in there once or twice, you would have to look that up. Thats the setup I'm running though and wouldn't change it, till now I'm building a 241/205 doubler.

Got a quote for the NV4500 205 combo from a guy on EBAY. $2500. Don't really know. Not the price that bp71k5 got his for. But the T-Case and No Nonsense combo might be worth it? Ready to pull the trigger... just need to know where to aim!

still a 241 fan due to lower gears without having to go so low on your axle gears. Still keep the highway manners and have a low gear when you need it. I run 5.38's with 36" tires, can still 70mph down the highway while only turning about 3200rpm on a small block chevy. Not much power but will do it with the 5th gear. Then still have an 82 or 83:1 crawl ratio. Just my 2 cents worth

Another vote for a NV4500 / NP241 combo. I would also hesitate to install the big heavy NP205 on an NV4500 for fear of ripping the threads out of the aluminum 5th gear housing, or worse yet cracking it open and loosing all $200.00 of your NV4500 juice (not to mention the cost replacing the housing...)

Another thought to consider with the NV4500 / NP205 setup would be how you'd hook the shifter up. Transmissions with the 205 behind them from the factory have provisions for the shifter pivot bolt to be installed. NV4500 won't have that, which could cause some difficulty.

Also, keep in mind that you will have to re-locate your existing t-case shifter (208 and 241 shifters interchange, 32 spline NP208 is another transfercase option) several inches towards the rear of your truck. If you have bucket seats and a center console, it won't be a problem, but with a bench seat the shifter winds up part way under the seat even with it pushed right back as far as it can go.

A fourth consideration is how you'll hook up the hydraulic clutch. I used a 93 NV4500 with an external slave, and adapted the 93 truck's clutch master to my truck. Resulted in a fairly stiff pedal however... I have heard rumours that the factory SM465 clutch masters are the same displacement however, which would allow you to run a factory hydro clutch pedal setup, with a factory master resulting in a light pedal that is easy to actuate. Using a high quality compression fitting such as made by Swagelok would allow you to splice the two clutch lines together easy enough.

I did an NV4500/NP205 swap with a figure 8 pattern 205, a long 32 spline input, and a custom round adapter that was drilled and countersunk with the top 5 bolts on the 205, and then drilled and tapped for the six bolts on the NV4500.

I then used the three remaining bottom holes in the transfer case to mount studs with permanent loctite and built a custom mount that bolted to the transfer case as well as to the stock mounts on the NV4500.

For the clutch issue I used a SM465 bell, which fits the input bushing housing, and backdrilled and tapped into the face of the NV4500. All the holes are outside the case and just penetrated into the mount flange, so I wasn't worried about getting crap inside the case or leaks.

The shifter is easily taken care of with ORD's twin stick shifter kit for the NV4500.

All that being said, the only reason to stick with the 205 is if you're going to bounce it off rocks (cast iron case instead of aluminum).

Nice rebuilt NV4500 over at PIRATE thanks!. Pick up only! :(

I get what you guys are saying about not going with the 205. I just spent 2850 on wheels and tires. Talk to Mike over at rimzoneonline.com and he will build you a sweet rim/tire package mounted and all for a great price. Now all is left is buyin this tranny!

Got some 40 inch nitto mud grapplers.. and the 20 x 12 XD rockstars! I have the Nitto's on my titan and love the look and road manners it has! I kno the rockstars are played out but I think they still look sick, and the blazer is goin to be satin black so it will be a good look!

Here are the nitto's on my nissan.

nice, what size are the ones on the titan? Titan looks good too. I would love to level my superduty, but then i couldn't get my slide in camper in. Been looking at the american racing black chrome wheels a little bit though.

35x12.5 on 18's. The Nissan is a great truck. Get up and go when you need it and stops on a dime! Hopefully I can get the K5 to roll like that too! Stopping was SCARY! 38's on a 1/2 ton brakes!
