think im sold on the 6 speed now!!!!!!!! NV5600 in the future....
I dont care about weight or lenght.. I got a fullsize....
weight is merely a small factor.. you just bring that many less people that make that weight up....:haha:

eventually when I do the crew cab conversion... the bed will be cut but I will still have the rollbar, toolbox with tools, oil, oilfilter, belts, chainsaw, straps, extra alt, waterpump, starter, dshafts, universals, axle shafts... kinda like a self recovery, self repair vehicle...
It'd an awesome tranny to be sure It'd be perfect behind a Turbo'd 6.2 In a crew cab tow rig another downside is length there quite a bit longer also But if ya got the coin it'd be pretty damn cool:bow:

I'd consider the ZF 6 speed found beind the D-max's and 8.1 L. It's a fair chunk lighter and doesn't require any special adaptors or mix and match spline BS. It's rated for 19,000 lbs GCVW...

It's also an integral bell tranny, and is all aluminum. Also not cheap, and also going to be hard to find. I did a bit of checking around and quickly decided the NV4500 rebuild was looking a lot better.

Yeah there not exactly easy to come buy NV4500's seem to be getting cheaper I got my 4500 and 241 combo for 400 bucks with both d-shafts there aren't to many D-max ' 6-speeds (even less wrecked) but it'd be a good tranny also(dodge now use's the ZF tranny also)

One needs to tread lightly looking for a NV5600; It is my understanding that they are no longer in production, having been replaced by the ZF. Apparently, there were too many problems with them behind the Cummins. Anyhow, I was told(by Standard Transmission & Gear) that they would not recommend I use the NV5600 in a conversion, because of a severe lack of replacement parts. In fact, this company does not want to sell one of these trannys outright, they will only sell them exchange. The ZF is far more scarce, but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Oh, and if you're planning a six speed conversion to go behind a Cummins, the ford ZF version is much easier to locate, and adapters are available to mate it to the Cummins, and a NP205 is easily adapted to the ZF.

Yeah that's true ford has been using ZF trannys for quite sometime the earlier 5-spd ZF's were Junk though

You can buy a 06 cummins with a 5600. As for problems, I havent seen a broken 5600 yet, but the have only been out since 01 or so.

No they've been ZF since about Mid 05'. The 5600 came out in mid 1998 with the Intro of the H.O. 24valve
