if you can get it for a good price id jump on it.

ya i know that. i have 2 205 units.

so if i was to get it with no shifter and un known condition how much would be safe payment?

id try to get it for under 350-400, thats what a 2wd on ebay just went for if thats at all relevant

2x4 makes it worth less than normal IMO. Unknown condition subtracts some too. I will say used shifters are hard to find unless the Getrag shifter works. I haven't got that far yet. A bell will run you $340 from AA, and a rebuild kit and small parts kit will run about $300 or so. I'm into my NV4500 for about $850 US and still need the bell and shifter...but mine was a basket case that had suffered a catastrophic failure.

I'd probably offer $300 and not go any higher than $500 if the guys guarantees it's a good tranny.
