So I just picked up an early 90's NV4500 mated to a 241 and want to swap over to one of my 205's. I'm currently running a SM465/205 32 spline combo but also have a fresh figure 8 205. What do I need to do in order to swap one of my 205's onto the 4500? :dunno:

I'm thinking this is what I'll need: http://www.advanceadapters.com/prod...ase-circular-6-bolt-pattern-to-gm-4wd-nv4500/

Anyone know if I'll have a problem with my 205 linkage?

That is the spacer you need :waytogo:

Even with the spacer you still need to remove some material from the 4500's tail housing so that the inside shift rail of the 205 has full travel ( it's not a lot, and pretty easy to do) :D.

I can't help you with linkage questions, my 4500/205 combo is behind a 12V Cummins, so everything was a problem :doah:

Yeah, what Chris said

As far as a shifter, I used the ORD twin stick for my NV4500/205 swap.

This is not the how the final fitment of ORD twin stick turned out. This was just mock up. For some reason I never got a final install picture of the shifter. Took a lot of fondling to make it work right but it works great now.

The rest of the swap pictures are here

Why not run the 241? I would. It has a lower low range than the 205 and is lighter. Plus it's already mated up to your trans. Maybe a SYE and call it a day.

Just a thought.

Isn't the front driveshaft output on the wrong side? Also it has slip yoke on t-case... I was hoping to use exsisting driveshafts.

Anyone know what will net me the closest drivetrain length as my current sm465/205 combo (spacer or swapped short 32 spline)?

 drivers drop on nv4500 since thay come from 88-up trucks. :doah:

and if you wana swap to short input we can do that real easy . since i have had the 205 cases apart before. good time to twin stick and also get ord twin stick shifter setup.

I'm thinking the same, i just want to stay with as close to the same driveline as possible. I'm hoping someone wouldn't mind measuring their's for me so I can compare.

Am I wrong to assume that I can just find a GM NV4500 bell housing and mount my existing clutch slave to it?

Is the short 32 spline input the one that is used between the 400 and 205? In other words, is this what I'm looking for to mate my 205 to the nv4500?

88-95 hydro bell housing style with lower pass side slave will need 4" of lift to clear drive shaft on pass side in our trucks.

and also the short 32 spline input gear was used on fig 8 style 205 setup on a th400 tranny . on ebay for about 150 shipped new all the time from a guy .

Crap... I had it in my head it took a 2" lift for clearance. I just picked up a '95 bell and trans and was eyeballing my '79..

Good information refresher in this thread.

The short 32 spline input was used in '84 and older (non-military) TH400/NP205 setups. They are still available brand new, we have them for $135.

If you need a long input, I have one and I need a short input. PM me. :waytogo:
I'm pretty sure I'm I'm the same situation as you... I need a short input, good to know ORD has them!

I found a bellhousing/slave/fork for it, now I just need to get short shaft and the time to swap. Anyone know the difference in drivetrain length the new set up will be compared to what my current is? I'm assuming driveshafts will have to be altered..
