NV4500 questions

Is that because the 6 bolt circle pattern is not symetrical? I dont think I understand what handed is. I is a mechanic I need a picture:D

Left hand or right hand...

The 6 hole pattern isn't symmetrical, so when GM went to the drivers side drop I think they just mirrored the adaptors and T-cases. When re-drilling a 203 you get 5 out of 6 holes (the 6th hole is on the edge of the machined surface so it's pretty much useless) 5 is plenty IMO, but I could only get 4 bolts started. Lemme dig for a pic...

OK, first pic is the 6 hole gasket laying on the 4500 output housing. Note there is a 7th hole in the gasket which colored in the location with a felt marker. The pic is right side up...

Pic two is with the gasket on the re-drilled 203 range box oriented the exact same way, but we're looking at the other side of the gasket (obviously)

You can see the hole at the 4 o'clock postion doesn't line up. You can also see the center punch mark for the unusable hole (9 o'clock)

When I turned the gasket so the side with the letters faced the 203 the hole pattern matched perfectly, which is mirrored.

Hope that clears it up some.

Yo!
Its a Chevy 32 spline output?
Does it come with the bellhousing? It probably has the slave low on the passanger side which might be a problem with the driveshaft. Advance adapters' bellhousing is like 3-400 bucks to make it like a factory sm465 bellhousing.. I'm not sure of alternatives besides that.
What you need to score is a Round Pattern 32 spline Np205, but most of em are slipyoke so you might want to convert that to a fixed yoke 205.
Unless you got lucky and scored an early nv4500 or something you need to notch the tailshaft housing.
The tailshaft 5th gear housing IS the adapter, so it'll bolt up to the round pattern 205 with some notching on the tailshaft housing to clear one of the 205 shifter rails, and also clearanced a hair to clear the idler nut on the np205.
It will be like factory, but it looks like it is about 1.5" longer than an sm465-np205.

Yep it's 32 spline. My truck came from factory with a 32spline 465/205 but was swapped out for a 10spline 465/205 which was shot. When I bought it I upgraded to a 90' 465/241 for shift on the fly and 3.1 low range. I calculated roughly that the 4500/241 will be 1" longer than my current 465/241 combo. When I had the driveshaft shortened I built in a little play so I can easily absorb the extra length.

As for the shaft interferance I am going to a D Drop 241 and high pinion D60 anyway so there is not issue.

Gonna have to let me know how that NV4500 works for you David :) Someday when I can afford one, I would love to install one for my gasser as well!
