i just got done with a nv4500 swap new style 96 up internal slave factory hydro bellhousing i converted a 85 up master to -3 an and a new internal slave to -3 an with a russel braided -3 an line for clutch and brake system and i am running a regular 12 inch clutch from a 91 half ton that i had already lifetime warranty so i got a new one before i put it in

now its acting like the cluch is not releasing all the way when i let the clutch out it takes off fine but after 3rd gear i can make it slip as soon as i hit the clutch pedal it disengages it i checked to see if it was holding pressure in the line keeping it open and nothing i shimmed the master away from the firewall thinking it was keeping the rod pussed in and nothing

did they change clutches with the internal slave its like the fingers on the diaphram are too long and the slave is pressing on them all the time i need help thanks

I'm not familiar with the internal slave.

You should have about an inch of free travel on the pedal before anything moves. Is there a rod from the slave to a fork or how is it arranged after the hydraulic portion?

On the external slave you can adjust the length of the rod from the slave to the fork to some degree.

on the internal slave the input shaft goes through the middle the slave with the throwout bearing on the end of it with a big spring hard to explain but no way to adjust

oh and there is no free play in the pedal

OK, so its basically a hydraulic throwout bearing type setup.

So, if the pedal comes all the way up and the master cylinder piston is in fact coming all the way to the top of the stroke, you don't have many options left. Throw out bearing is wrong or the clutch is wrong.

I think I read somewhere it has to be a diaphragm type clutch.

i think its going to be the clutch but its kinda expensive so i hate to put that in and it not be it but if i don't figure it out by next week then i am going to buy a new one

I had a similar problem on mine except that I couldn't fully disengage the clutch. I didn't use a gm bellhousing so I can't be sure, but I bet the internal slave models use a different pressure plate/ bearing combo.
