NV4500 t-case options.

Just a thought floating around in my head right now.

Anyways.....Is there any way to have a passenger side drop on a GM Nv4500? I know it can be done with a doubler but that is big bucks.
 
Any 32 spline 6 bolt round pattern NP205, NP208 or NP241 bolts straight up to the transmission without any adapters. You'll find the proper 205s and 208s in 83+ trucks with TH400s or SM465s, and the NP241s in 89 - 91 K5s, 3+3s and burbs with TH400s, 4l80es, or SM465s
 
That simple? Damn I thought it would be damn near impossible. I am just real up to snuff on the late model trucks. I am still stuck on the trucks from the 70's.
Anyways here is the thought kicking around in my head. I have a 94 K-2500 6.5TD/NV4500. The thing runs great and the tranny is awesome, but I do not like the IFS up front. I want to do an ORU SAS kit in it using the 32.5 kit so I can use either a late 70's Ford axle or any GM strait front axle. I don't need a D60 for it. I could get an 8 lug D44 or 10 bolt for cheap. Ford axles are pretty rare around these parts, but if I go that way I am covered too. I also have a set of flat top knuckles so I would be covered on the cross over steering as well. If I found a D60 for cheap I would buy it, but I really doubt that will happen. The truck is gonna be a tow rig not a rock crawler so I think a 3/4 axle will work fine. I want it for simplicity more than anything, not to mention I hate IFS.
 
Its a fairly easy swap to do a solid front axle on those trucks. You will need to invest in lots of cut off wheels to clean up the frame of all the old IFS garbage though! There are plenty of companies that build SFA kits for those trucks, both of the weld on and bolt on variety.

And yup, super easy to swap those t-cases around. GM still uses the 6 bolt round pattern both in 27 and 32 spline to this day. I had a 2006 NV3500 in my 1986 K10 with a 6.2L diesel using a 6.2L flywheel, 350 clutch pack and the 06 internal slave cylinder with an 89 NP241 to top it all off. I didn't even have to move the transmission crossmember, or modify my driveshafts. GM is still using the same transmission mount bushing as they did back in the 80s.
 
Yeah I know what you mean about the frame clean up. Found a 32 spline 205 as well as the round bolt pattern adapter in the for sale forums. Waiting on a pm to see whats up with that.
 
the only problem I have read about is using an external slave cylinder on passenger side diff trucks that have no lift. It tends to contact the driveshaft.
 
Ah, forgot to mention that. My truck has somewhere between 4 - 6" of lift, and the driveshaft is still within 3" of contact

Yeah I read that. I plan on it having around 6" of lift and doubt I would be flexing it out any very often. May not be a problem if a Ford axle falls in my lap.
 
Oh, and just a thought on the 205. The tailshaft that the t-case bolts onto is actually the 5th gear housing on the NV4500. It is made out of cast aluminum, and I'd question it's overall strength. If you are running a big heavy 205, I might sugggest installing a crossmember to support the t-case and take some strain off the transmission. Those 5th gear housings are not cheap, and not easy to find either
 
475 with out the adapter.32 spline input and both outputs.shift rails read for twin stick and the face has been drilled to be clocked.
