Hey all it's been a while since I've been around here.

Just a quick question for a friend he has found a nv 4500 to swap into his 2WD 86(I think) c30. The tranny he found has a VSS on the tail stock and he obviously has a cable speedo. Dose anyone know if it can be converted or if you can rig a VSS driven aftermarket speedo??

Thanks for the brotherhood.

One option is to get the speedometer cluster out of a '90-91 Burb/K5/Crew cab. They are still very easy to find.

Have to re-pin the cluster connector (not hard at all, GM actually simplified the wiring on the later clusters) and wire in/add the DRAC, but IMO the VSS setup is far better than cable drive. There are plenty of posts on here about DRAC/VSS conversions.

This of course, assumes the NV4500 is using a 40 tooth reluctor.

It does indeed... Electric speedo is a very nice upgrade too!

I think this is one of those "sounds like a lot of work" projects, that is actually far simpler than it sounds. No worrying about speedometer cable routing, converting the 4500 over to cable drive (if even possible), changing speedometer gears for tire/gear changes, etc.

Just a few extra wires that you can run anyway way you like!

Sweet thanks brothers!

Can anyone link a thread or two for me? I am limited to my iPhone at the moment since my laptop took a dump. and searching with this thing sucks.

Although I am sure threads detailing the procedure will explane; how dose the speedo end up correct speed when your running a different tranny/gears/etc?
