hey thinking baoiut swapping back to a manual. My rig is only 4400lbs and getting lighter by the day (its' on a tube diet). I had it weigherd at the local rock yard so that number might be off a few pounds but oh well. I am looking at the light duty nv4500 but i' ma fab'r not a mechanic so i am looking for a littel info. What t-case comes behind the CEHVY nv4500 (the lgiht duty version)? Is it a slip yoke t-case (puke). If it is is there a slip yoke eliminator for it? I think the light duty will be fine for my rig since it's kindaaaaa light and i don't plan on ever running anything heavier then i already am.

what are everyones opinions on that idear?

There is no light duty NV4500. There is a HD version used in Dodges with a 1.375" input (versus a 1.125" input for the regular ones)

Common T-cases behind the NV4500 were the NP241's. A NP208 also bolts up with no fuss. The rear output housing has the generic 6 hole pattern...but keep in mind that pattern isn't symmetrical and is mirror image of what you'd find on a passenger drop adaptor ot T-case. I found that out the hard way after getting a 203 range box redrilled. I ended up having to slot on adaptor hole on the output housing to make it work. Wasn't that big of a deal...just annoying.

Advance adaptors has a lot of goofy adaptor kits meant for the NV4500. All the GM NV4500's had a 32 spline output.

hope that helps somewhat.

oh, when I said "light duty" i meant in relation to the heavy duty. it's the lighter duty nv4500 as opposed to the heavier duty dodge. I guess my main question is will it bolt up to a 350 sbc.

Oh yeah, it'll bolt to any sbc, bbc or 6.2/6.5 diesel no problem. Mine is behind my 6.2 diesel.

Got the Parts

You can run an NP241 or a round pattern NP205.

The 241 is a bolt-on, the round 205 is more work.

Its not uncommon to get sticker-shock from the NV4500 and its paraphernalia. That's the main reason I swapped in a 465 instead.

i need the overdrive, otherwise i woulda just thrown the 465 i had on the side yard in it. I know where there is a light duty 4500 right now in good shape for 80 bucks :-D

I have a dodge HD NV4500. it was 1 1/4" input stock. I had to upgrade to get the 1 3/8" like the nv5600 after '01. Never heard of a 1 3/8th factory size input on a nv4500.

Prolly my mistake Luke. I may have been reading about the 1.375" upgrade and got that stuck in my head...

there might be don't get me wrong, but so far I've never heard of one. And the 1 3/8" input upgrade is a hot seller for the 4500, needed to run the bigger 13" clutches too.

Well, it's definitely Dodge NV4500 stuff...so my info could easily be wrong as I wouldn't be giving it the same attention I would to GM NV4500 info.

Either way it'd take an awefully stout GM powerplant to need that big of an input or clutch. I run a 12 1/4" puller clutch behind my 6.2 which is total overkill...
