O2 sensor delete

heres what I have, a 1994 Blazer 350 TBI. I just installed headers and it's all good so now I'm looking to delete my cat, not needed in my state, and just throw a pipe in its place. The issue I'm having is that my o2 sensor is just before my cat so once I cut the cat out I have to remove the sensor to have room to clamp the new pipe down. What do I do with the sensor? I know why it's there and what it does I'm not asking that I'm asking basically what will happen if I just take it out and unplug it and leave the plug hanging there.

You'll get a check engine light that never goes away, not very efficient engine performance, and worse gas mileage.
 
Well this cat is coming out either way so I guess I'll just have to find a catleas y pipe and install the sensor back in. Thanks for the info guys.

Every muffler shop has 02 bungs, just buy them and install them either slightly forward or rearward of the original. Like was said, without the 02 sensor the ECM will keep the vehicle in open loop and driveability and fuel mileage will suffer. Why do you want to remove the CATS anyhow? The CATS used then aren't restrictive like they were when they first came out in the mid 70's so you wont gain anything other than being a little noisier if that's what you're after.
 
just weld a bung in the header collector and run a heated O2...... permanent open loop brings da ghey...
 
What headers did you use? I put a set on a 90 I had years ago, had the O2 sensor already there. I got the y-pipe with it, and made a HUGE difference in torque. I deleted the cat as well.
 
My cat is crazy restrictive. It's packed full, no flow at all. I'm looking to pull it mainly because I like the sound without the cat. Going to throw a glasspack in there and run it that way. I put the summit shorty headers in it and I love them honestly. My headers do have a bung for the sensor so I guess I could just stuff it in there if I can find where it comes from in the engine compartment. Any ideas?
 
Why not just unbolt the exhaust from the header and use a long rod to hollow out the cat? 15 minutes and no welding necessary.
 
Because you can sell your cats for a few hundred dollars. They're full of platinum palladium and rhodium. All expensive rare metals. Why wast that?

Some CATS have those materials in them but our trucks never have.
 
I got $75 for the catalytic converter off of my 1987 V10...........

I sold the cat off of my 93 1500 for 200 last summer and this one is literally the exact same. I don't know where you got your information but ALL cats have those materials in them. That's what makes them work.

That's my plan. I want to move it to the bung in my drivers side header collector but I can't figure out where the wire goes for my sensor. It actually runs backward and over my trans into a set of wires that all runs back to the engine bay. Once up there it all splits and I don't know where the actual o2 sensor wires go.
 
You can just cut and splice to make the wire longer if you need to.

Yeah but why run another 6 feet of wire under my truck when the harness that it's in comes out literally 6 inches from where the sensor is going to be? I just need someone to tell me where it goes lol

The wire go up and to the ECM located passenger side behind the glove box.
