Got my headers from hedman today and noticed that they dont have the sensor bung. Is my tbi going to run like **** if i have the muffler shop weld in the oxygen sensor bung slightly past the collector? I got the mid length thermal coated headers for a camaro part #68608 from summit and im hopeing that the sensor wont be too far away. My plans are to run duals without cat converters-not sure if this matters any

Next question, the bracket on the drivers side that mounts to the back of the altenator, do i really need this if i dont have a/c.
Thannks in advance for the help, i didnt have any time to check out that bracket and what it supports

You need to place the 02 sensor right after the header. Your kit should have included a short collector piece. That is the part you want to add the 02 bung on. If you place the 02 there it should be fine.

Set up posted above will work fine. May go out of closed loop at idle. But that is no big deal. Once rpms come up it will go back in closed loop and run fine.

Hey Thunder, do you think there'd be a significant temp drop in that short span?

FWIW I'm running a 3 wire heated 02.

Yep. Without the bracket, the alternator vibrates. I once had to replace an alternator while I was in the boonies out in Silverton, Colorado and the only one available wasn't clocked properly to allow me to reinstall that bracket. It worked, but the alternator was visibly shaking. I had to take the alt apart and reindex the housing so that I could put the bracket back in place. :doah:

I run a three wire sensor in that same location and it works fine. It stays closed loop at idle too.

Not Thunder, but I'm running full length headers with the O2 mounted exactly as pictured, and it tends to go into open loop at idle, but immediately goes closed with any sort of throttle. Not an issue at all, many GM vehicles, stock, acted the same way.

Thanks Dorian,

those are the new full length Hedman Elite's. Best money I ever spent on headers. I have some comparison pictures I'll have to post up later. I gained all kinds of clearance and the quality was very good.

:D
