I am going to put an exhaust on the truck this spring, I have ordered some gear from CFM tech (got the super sucker single bolt plate, pressure guage adapter, guage, and a set of injectors). None of this gear will be put on until the exhaust is installed.
The question on my mind is that the 3 wire is good, but the 4 wire is 'suppose to be' better. So what is required to run the 3 or 4 wire O2 sensor, I mean is there a software package that has to be installed into the truck, or does it have heated wires and ground then the 3rd wire is tied into the oem O2 wire? What is the difference in the 4 wire then?

Not trying to bother anyone here, but none of this stuff is covered on what I work on, mostly OEM and Alldata, but it's also fleet stuff. I don't want fleet level work done on my truck I want above and beyond, how I figure it there are two ways of getting to that level. Pay for it or learn it. With the kids going to start to drive in the next couple of years, maybe it time that I put myself back into 'school' mode!

Thanks!

I think the 3 wire O2 sensor is more than good enough! The 4 wire O2 sensor works the same as a 3 wire O2 sensor, except the 4th wire is a "ground" wire to the ECM O2 sensor "ground" connection. Not all ECM's are wired to accept the 4th wire "ground".

Yep what Dave said. I put 3 wire 02's on my 83 Chevy where the factory system only used the one wire 02.
