I've been doing my homework, looking into the details of different OBA compressors for the past week, really planned on going to the pull a part yard tomorrow (really) and all of a sudden I had two different guys at work bring and give to me two A6 compressors. So the question is wtf? Do I run with the A6 or go after the target, a york 10 ci? I've only within the past few hours been doing the research on the a6, and it looks promising, but damn, I've got a pre vortec 350 with a serpentine belt, and the a6 has got a single v belt groove. Guess I can weld a vbelt pulley to the power steering serp pulley (I'll take it off to attach it) then put a belt from the power steering to the a6. I brought one home to play with this weekend, I'm so tired of working overtime! What say ye brotherhood?

thay dont work as good . no oil resivor like a your.

i know were there is a york and its a 210 model right now. then with the serp belt setup you just get the kilbey mount for the a/c position and swap on the serp clutch.

The A6's use the coolant refridgerant to oil the inside of the compressor where as a York is a self oiling mini twin cylinder motor. In order to use an A6 you'd have to come up with a stand alone oil tank to feed the A6 to keep it lubed.

The A6 compressor *does* have an oil reservoir. It does not rely solely on lubricant in the refrigerant for cooling and lubrication. I've been running an A6 for OBA for approx 4 years with 0 issues so far. Works great.

decided

well I figure that I'm not out anything if either of the a6 compressors work, so I will stick with them, but to complicate things (Murphy is going to have a ****ing field day with me on this), I think that i will make a bracket that will incompass both the a6 compressor and another alt for a weldenator setup. Why not?

A friend has been using an A6 for many years for OBA on his trail rig. He puts a few drops of some sort of light oil in it during each use and has never had an issue. It seems to put out a good volume of air as it will air up a 42" tire about as fast as my 110v 55 gal. shop compressor if you rev the engine to 1,500 rpm.
