Well a guy I know that comes into work said hes going to look into finding me an air pump from an old truck that had air brakes. He said hes pretty sure he has one laying around his shop that I can have the pump and tank off of.

So i'm thinking sweet, mobile shop with air tools and I can air down all I like and just fill back up.

Has anyone ever tried using an old air brake system pump for OBA?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't know what CFM the pump will put out. That will be the limiting factor.

Well he said its some pretty heavy duty sh1t. After using air tools at my buddys house I have a hard on for em. So I figured why not make it portable...

They require a govener and require a constant bath of oil from the engine, or a seperate res and pump.

I looked into it, way easier to use a york.

Several years ago there was a kit to convert a Chrysler AC compressor to an air pump. The Chrysler compressor was a V design and mounted front center of the engine. An air hose and quick connect was used. When you need air just engage the compressor clutch while the engine idled. It was very efficient and required little maintence. They may still be available on e-bay.

Kenworth actually uses/used yorks at some point. You can still get a serp. clutch for a York through Kenworth dealerships. ;)
