picked up a 95 6.5 burb that starts fine, but with 60g plugs in it I know it would start cleaner with a little more plug on time. Curious if anybody has experience with this...if it is even possible?

I just use a manual push button on my 6.2 with 60G's...but I have read online about some who have added a resistor to the glow plug controller to extend the glow time longer,so the 60g's will heat up more...

Manual is a no-go for this one, and the resistor wouldn't work either, as the controller is just a relay controlled by the ecm. I have considered converting to the older controller and using a resistor, I am pretty sure this can be set up in the programming.

Bill Heath and Kennedy Diesel both offer reflashes, and yes the glow duration can be tweaked in software, at least the 96+ can. On the 94-95s you just swap the chip inside the ECM, I presume there is a table for glow duration on those as well.

The plugs do stay on longer than the 85 up system, but really could be longer for cleaner starts with the 60gs. I have always used the bosch 80034 plug, as they are indestructible, but after some testing I could see that the 60g got hotter and stayed hotter than the duratherm, even though it takes very slightly longer to glow.

Right now it starts completely clean -zero smoke- at about 40 deg(13 seconds), but at 50-60 the on time is a few seconds less (9-10 seconds) and it is slightly smoky and rough for a couple seconds. I am being picky with this...what it is doing is by no means out of line with normal.....but it could be better.

What sort of testing routine were they run through?
