i have a 96 1500 4x4 with vortec 5.7 and 3.73 gears and soon to be 285's. how do you think towing a blazer on 38's with a trailer would be? I hear people tow with the 5.3 with minimal effort, and I know that the vortec 5.7 tows better from personal experience. maybe large tranny cooler and gauge? opinions?

It'll be doggy with the bigger tires. Trans temps could also be an issue in the summer months.

If you've got a trailer with working brakes, it should work for you.

you WIll be close to if not over your capacity.

I personally don't want to tow somethign over about 4-5000lbs wiht a 1/2 ton. That setup will be way over. Legal/safe, maybe, but barely. Ideal? No way.

Power-wise I think it would be fine, but I just don't think a 1500 is really up to the task in drivetrain durability, suspension, or brakes.

well my truck is paid off and i love it. i would only be towing maybe 2 times a year. i was thinking a large cooler, guage and extra deep tranny pan, 3/4 ton MC and booster and a 14bsf upgrade. i just cant see paying 20,000 for a newer diesel.

well i got 265's on my truck now i was just wanting to upgrade to 285's with MT classic 2's

you really think it will make that much of a difference? im sure i can do a few engine mods to make up for it.

No. There is only 1/2" rolling radius (the measurement that affects gearing) difference between the two tires.
